Making a home for the Baltimore Checkerspot

It’s actually a pretty simple project to create an environment that will lure the Baltimore Checkerspot butterfly onto the MA & PA Trail.  The idea is we plant White Turtlehead in selected wetland sections of the trail. These butterflies can’t live without it!  We also need to build fencing around the plants, since deer love White Turtlehead just as much.

Chesapeake Corridor Team volunteers started to plant native White Turtlehead in late Spring, 2014. This planting is taking place on both sides of the marsh overlook area on the MA & PA Trail in Forest Hill. See photos from the June 2014 work day.
